Conestoga's Gately steps down

Karen Gately, who won more than 100 games as Conestoga's field hockey coach in the past eight seasons, has resigned.

Gately will be succeeded by Megan Ryan, who served as Gately's assistant for two years.

"With two young children, one school-age, and teaching full time, it has been difficult to balance it all," said Gately, 35.

During her tenure, the Pioneers won two Central League championships, in 2005 and this season. They were 17-2-1 this year.

Ryan is a graduate of West Chester East, where she played under Diane Horsey. In college, she played for Villanova.
