Sun Valley takes Ches-Mont American softball title
Alie Alkins scorched a run-scoring triple in the bottom of the eighth inning to give Sun Valley a 6-5 win over Downingtown East on Monday, clinching the Ches-Mont League American Division softball title.

The Vanguards scored twice in the sixth to tie the game, and won their third extra-inning game this spring.
Katie Maloney hit a triple, went 2 for 4, drove in a run, and scored twice, and Kait Dwyer finished 1 for 3 with a double and an RBI. Paige Giunta went 2 for 5 with a home run for the Cougars.
Also in the Ches-Mont League, Meredith Katona drove in the winning run with a single in the seventh, and West Chester Rustin topped visiting West Chester East, 3-2. Katona also was the winning pitcher. Elena DiPrimio had two hits and scored twice.
Lauren Butts struck out seven and Heidi McCollester scored four runs as West Chester Henderson rolled at Kennett, 9-2. Butts doubled and threw a complete game.
Central. Bridget Neuman struck out three and walked one in a complete game as Haverford High downed host Conestoga, 4-2.
Taylor Willard recorded a two-out single to score Ishale Toliver in the second inning, and Upper Darby held on to edge host Garnet Valley, 1-0.
Taylor Winkelman hit a grand slam in the second inning and drove in six runs as Springfield (Delco) rocked host Harriton, 24-2.
Pioneer. Erin Hamm struck out six to help Perkiomen Valley defeat visiting Pottstown, 10-0. Bridget Walker and Nicole Bangert each had two RBIs.
Jess Kurtz went 3 for 4 and drove in three runs as Pottsgrove downed host Pope John Paul II, 6-4. Lexi Kehl hit a triple and went 2 for 3 with a pair of runs scored.
Inter-Ac. Taylor Lord went 3 for 4 with two runs scored and an RBI as Agnes Irwin downed Notre Dame, 6-1. Katie Wenger posted the win with seven strikeouts and a walk in a complete-game win.
Public. Octavia Johnson moved from left field to shortstop and helped Franklin Learning Center edge visiting Bodine, 7-6. Johnson scored a run and had an RBI double in the fifth inning.
Nonleague. Allison Milligan went 3 for 4 and drove in four runs as Downingtown West topped host Unionville, 8-5.
Molly Scullion hit a home run in the fourth inning as Nazareth Academy downed host Archbishop Wood, 2-0. Taylor Lichtenhan struck out three for the win, and Tamera Jennings hit two doubles.
Rachel Stingel went 3 for 4 with four runs scored as Upper Dublin downed host Germantown Academy, 9-4.
Lacrosse
Emma Dorshimer scored with 31 seconds remaining in regulation, and Jenkintown edged visiting Upper Merion, 20-19, in a nonleague game. Dorshimer finished with three goals, and Emma Dillon scored five times.
Meghan McGillis and Kelly Morrison scored three times each as Conestoga dropped visiting Upper Dublin, 14-9.
Catholic Academies. Nora McCallion scored three goals and added two assists as Notre Dame defeated Gwynedd-Mercy, 11-2. Megan McGurk scored once and caused four turnovers.
Suburban One. Laura Frankenfield scored six times as Wissahickon stormed out to an early lead before cruising past host Plymouth Whitemarsh, 18-11. The Trojans led, 12-3, at the half. Zoe Gomez and Lauren Irvine scored four goals each.
