Unionville coach Fred Henjes stammered and struggled to find the right words Wednesday night after his team's 3-0 win against Downingtown East in the girls' division final of the Flyers Cup at Ice Line Quad Rinks in West Chester.

He was trying to put his team's fourth straight Flyers Cup into context.

"They don't know how to lose," he finally said. "They don't expect to lose."

Unionville faced a challenge in earning its fourth Cup against the tournament's top seed. The Indians had lost to Downingtown East in the Inter County Scholastic Hockey League final on March 13, 4-2.

"They'd have to be in a coma for that not to be a wake-up call," Henjes said of his team, which embraced the role of underdog. "It was the first time they heard that they weren't the favorite."

"That was definitely a tough loss," said Lillian Henjes, who was named to the all-tournament team. "We came back looking for revenge, and we wanted to win. We wanted to show them we can beat them and show them we're the team we are."

Annabeth Donovan, who had a goal and an assist, earned her fourth straight Bobby Clarke award as the tournament's most valuable player.

"It's great," said Donovan, who deflected the praise to her line, which calls itself the "Power Rangers."

"My team's out there with me. We hustle. We back-check together. We assist on each other's goals."

The Indians, the second seeds, were outshot, 43-38, and depended on Lillian Jones to come up big in net.

"That's definitely my best game all year," Jones said. "There were a few close calls, but luckily, they didn't go in."

Unionville took the lead a little more than five minutes into the game when Donovan, coming from the left half-boards, cut into the slot and beat goalie Miranda Stueve to the blocker side.

Donovan helped add insurance in the second period.

She flew down the right wing and went behind the net. When she came out on the left side of the cage, she slid the puck to Jordan Hagerty, who beat Stueve.

Hagerty put the game away with another goal in the third period.
