Friday's PIAA state finals roundup: Conestoga repeats as boys soccer state champions

Chris Donovan scored four goals and the Conestoga boys' soccer team repeated as PIAA Class 4A champions with a 4-0 win over Hempfield at Hersheypark Stadium.

Luke Smith recorded his 13th shutout of the season for the Pioneers (25-0-1), who beat Elizabethtown in last year's state final. Donovan finished with 56 goals on the year.

Conestoga scored 109 goals in 26 games this season and hasn't lost since the 2016 District 1 title game against West Chester Henderson.

The Black Knights (22-5-0), who won the District 3 title, beat Central Bucks East in the 2010 PIAA Class 3A final.

Girls' Soccer

Neshaminy lost to Norwin, 1-0, in the PIAA Class 4A final at Hersheypark Stadium.

Norwin (21-2-1) scored in the final minutes when Dani Iannuzzo put home a corner kick by Alyssa Victor. The Knights' 15th shutout of the season resulted in their first state crown since 1996.

The Redskins (19-7-1), who were trying to win their first state title 2013, defeated Parkland, Governor Mifflin, and Owen J. Roberts to reach Friday's final.

Neshaminy was led on offense this season by Kristin Curley and Brooke Mullin, who had scored the game-winning goal in the previous two games. Defenders Hannah Stonkus, Nicole Palmer, Genna Obringer, and Alex Ziegler played great all season long in front of goalkeeper Riley Spingler.

St. Basil's historic season came to an Friday with a 1-0 loss to Mercyhurst Prep in the PIAA Class 2A final at Hersheypark Stadium.

Claire Johnson's 35-yard shot found the back of the net for District 10 champion Mercyhurst Prep (20-4-2), which lost to Trinity in last year's state title game.

The Panthers (16-7-0) played in their first-ever state title game after beating Palisades, Midd-West, and Northwestern Lehigh along the way. St. Basil had 12 seniors on the roster this season.
