Lenape made a bold choice Wednesday night with the hiring of Tim McAneney as its football coach.
McAneney, former head coach at Bishop Eustace and Holy Cross, replaces Greg Harvey, who resigned after last season.
McAneney is not a teacher and will serve as an adjunct coach at Lenape. That's rare for a public school, especially in a large district.
"Tim McAneney demonstrated a vision and a plan that is the right fit for Lenape High School," Lenape athletic director Tim Walsh said. "His energy, leadership, communication skills, and preparedness are evident."
McAneney, son of legendary former coach Vince McAneney, was the coach for nine years at Bishop Eustace. His 2003 and 2006 teams made the Non-Public 2 state title games.
McAneney was the coach at Holy Cross for just one season. In 2008, his Lancers won the Non-Public 2 state title. McAneney, who lives in the Lenape district, was out of coaching in 2009 and 2010.
"I'm ecstatic," McAneney said. "This is arguably one of the best districts in the state, with everything they represent in education and the arts and athletics. I'm honored and privileged they would want me to have this job."
