Thursday's South Jersey roundup: Washington Township earns first South Group 4 title

Highlights from Thursday's girls' soccer playoff action in South Jersey.

Julianna Capano scored the game-winning goal in the second overtime Thursday to lift the Washington Township girls' soccer team past No. 4 Toms River North, 2-1. It is the first South Jersey Group 4 title for the Minutemaids.

Giovanna Castorina opened the scoring for No. 2 Washington Township in the first half off an assist from Milana D'Ambra. Marisa Tava equalized for defending champion Toms River North late in the first half with Jenna Royson picking up the assist. Cameron Kennett made nine saves for the Mariners while Jordynn Stallard made eight saves for the Minutemaids.

No. 10 Pitman rallied from a two-goal halftime deficit to defeat No. 4 Haddon Township, 3-2, in the South Group 1 championship match. Annie Sanker found the back of the net in overtime to give the Panthers the title. It was the second goal of the game for Sanker, who tied the match 2-2 late in the second half.

Sydney Farnham got Haddon Township on the board in the first half and Raylyn Straubmuller added to the lead later in the half. Peyton Canna got one back for the Panthers early in the second half.

Second-seeded Cinnaminson edged top-seeded Haddonfield, 3-2, in overtime to earn the South Group 2 title. Hailey Gutowski scored twice in the win, including the overtime winner. Emma Karch also tallied a goal and chipped in an assist for the Pirates. Madison Bee and Nic Green tallied a goal apiece for the Bulldawgs and Maya Olimpio made four saves in the loss.

Top-seeded Ocean City won the South Group 3 final in a shootout against No. 10 Cherry Hill West. After a scoreless 100 minutes of soccer, the Red Raiders earned the win on penalty kicks, 2-1.

Julia Valinoti made 14 saves as Palmyra fell to Shore Regional, 3-0, in the Central Group 1 championship. Hannah Birdsall, Frankie McDonough and Lauren Mendillo scored a goal each for Shore Regional in the win.

Michaela Salvati scored the game-winner with 21 minutes left in the match to lead Bishop Eustace to a 2-1 win against Mount St. Mary in the South Non-Public A final. Olivia Hansen opened the scoring for the Crusaders 13 minutes into the match.

Kieran Lees pounced on a rebound after a Chloe Jones free kick bounced off the goalkeeper to give Moorestown Friends a 1-0 win against Rutgers Prep. The Foxes held off Rutgers Prep to earn the South Non-Public B crown.
