Pedro allows 5 runs in 5 innings

ALLENTOWN - Pedro Martinez allowed a leadoff home run tonight while pitching for the Phillie's Triple-A Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs against the Columbus Clippers at Coca Cola Park. After Martinez surrendered a leadoff home run to centerfielder Michael Brantley on the second pitch of the game, he then retired the next three batters.

ALLENTOWN - Pedro Martinez allowed a leadoff home run tonight while pitching for the Phillie's Triple-A Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs against the Columbus Clippers at Coca Cola Park. After Martinez surrendered a leadoff home run to centerfielder Michael Brantley on the second pitch of the game, he then retired the next three batters.

He left after five innnigs and threw 84 pitches, allowing five runs on three hits.

Martinez ran into trouble in the fifth inning, allowing four runs, including a two-run triple to the No. 9 batter Niuman Romero. He threw 35 pitches in the inning.

Michael Tayler crushed a two-run HR to centerfield for Lehigh Valley in the fourth inning.

Carlos Carrasco, traded on Wednesday to Cleveland in the Cliff Lee deal, was the starting pitcher for Columbus.
