Phillies to honor scout Dick Lawlor

HOUSTON - The Phillies selected longtime scout Dick Lawlor as the team's first-ever recipient of the Dallas Green Award. The award was created to honor an amateur or professional scout each season for his loyalty, work ethic, and dedication to the job. Lawlor, 79, spent 34 years in the organization until 2009. He was hired in 1978 by Green.

The award was created to honor an amateur or professional scout each season for his loyalty, work ethic, and dedication to the job. Lawlor, 79, spent 34 years in the organization until 2009. He was hired in 1978 by Green.

"This organization has meant so much to me over the years," Lawlor said. "It's the only organization I've ever known."

Lawlor will be honored before the Sept. 21 game against Washington.
