Phillies sign four players to minor league contracts
All will be in spring training as non-roster players
The start of spring training is still 3 months away but the Phillies have already began putting together a roster for their annual journey to Clearwater.
The Phillies signed four players to minor league contracts yesterday. All four players will be in spring training as non-roster players.
The four players: outfielders Leandro Castro and Clete Thomas, righthander Shawn Camp and lefthander Cesar Jimenez.
Thomas, 30, hit .214 with 4 home runs in 92 games with Minnesota this season. Thomas, who played all three outfield positions for the Twins, has played in 249 major league games with Minnesota and Detroit in the last six seasons.
Castro, 24, spent all of 2013 with Triple-A Lehigh Valley. he hit .256 with 8 home runs, 23 doubles and 20 stolen bases in 117 games with the IronPigs.
Camp, who turns 38 on Monday, went 1-1 with a 7.04 ERA in 26 games with the Chicago Cubs in 2013. Camp has a 4.40 ERA in 538 career games in parts of 10 big league seasons with Chicago, Toronto, Tampa and Kansas City.
Jimenez appeared in 19 games for the Phillies this season. The 29-year-old went 1-1 with a 3.71 ERA in 17 innings. Jimenez also had a 3.12 ERA in 36 games at Triple-A Lehigh Valley in 2013.
