Matt Holliday out of Cardinals' lineup again
Cardinals slugger Matt Holliday, who missed the second game of the NLDS with a strained finger tendon, will not be in Tony La Russa's starting lineup for Game 3. Allen Craig will start in right field his place.
No Matt Holliday (finger) for the Cardinals again today, so Allen Craig will start in left field. Cardinals manager Tony La Russa also announced that Edwin Jackson, Joe Blanton's favorite pitcher, will start Wednesday's Game 4 and staff ace Chris Carpenter will get the call if Game 5 is necessary.
Carpenter, was largely ineffective on Sunday pitching on three days of rest for the first time in his career. Friday's start would allow him the usual four days.
Here is the Cardinals lineup for Game 3 against Cole Hamels. It is the same La Russa used in Game 2 against Cliff Lee, the Phils' other lefty starter:
1. Rafael Furcal, ss
2. Allen Craig, lf
3. Albert Pujols, 1b
4. Lance Berkman, rf
5. David Freese, 3b
6. Yadier Molina, c
7. Ryan Theriot, 2b
8. Jon Jay, cf
9. Jaime Garcia, lhp
Key Cardinals vs. Hamels: Lance Berkman and Ryan Theriot each are 7-for-21 (.333) with one of Theriot's hits a homer … Albert Pujols is 4-for-23 (.174) with one of his two homers coming this season.
Garcia vs. key Phillies: Mayberry is 3-for-6 with a double. Ibanez is 1-for-3. Hunter Pence and Ryan Howard are the only Phillies to homer off the lefty. Pence is 3-for-15 (.200) and Howard is 2-for-12 (.167). Jimmy Rollins is just 1-for-11.
