Hollis Thompson is chasing an uncertain NBA dream.

The forward, who spent last season in the NBA Development League, wants to at least leave a positive impression with the 76ers during his bid to make their 15-man roster.

But the 6-foot-8, 206-pounder out of Georgetown is a long shot to make even this youthful and inexperienced team. It's hard to deny, however, that he is playing well.

Thompson scored 13 points in 28 minutes over his last two games before Monday's preseason contest against the Brooklyn Nets at the Wells Fargo Center. He did not play Friday night against the Boston Celtics.

"You never know how many minutes you are going to play," Thompson said. "So when you get in, you just try to do what you do and be effective."

Sixers coach Brett Brown said Thompson's flexibility gives him the best opportunity to make an NBA roster.

"I see him being a classic small-ball guy because he can shoot the ball and has enough size, not maybe so much bulk, but certainly the size where he can play some [power forward]," Brown said.

Brown on Kidd

Brown believes rookie coach Jason Kidd will have immediate success with the Nets. Brooklyn hired Kidd this offseason after a 19-year playing career.

"When you look at him, you love his disposition," Brown said. "There's calmness and there's a poise that's backed up by an incredible resumé."
