Sixers have good practice despite trade-deadline distraction
Head coach Brett Brown said the team 'had as good a session as we've had all year.
BEFORE THE Sixers were turned on their ear yesterday with the trades of Michael Carter-Williams and K.J. McDaniels, the players went through a workout in preparation for the final 29 games of the season. Despite all the guarded anticipation of the trade deadline, coach Brett Brown was pleased with the way his team shoved all distracting thoughts off to the side.
"They just had as good a practice as they've had all year," said Brown. "They are together. Everybody understands the awkwardness of today. I really enjoy coaching these guys and appreciate them. Today is what it is and we navigated through it and had as good a session as we've had all year."
They navigated through it without anyone really navigating. Carter-Williams sat out due to a strained right big toe. The team will sign point guard Tim Frazier to his second 10-day contract and he should be ready for tonight's game against visiting Indiana. Whether newly acquired lead guard Isaiah Canaan will be available is unknown.
On another front, veteran Jason Richardson had a full practice for the second day in a row in his attempt to comeback from a 2-year absence following knee surgery. Brown said he looked good, but was non-committal as to when Richardson will suit up.
"Jason practiced twice in a row in real scrimmage action, five-on-five, and looked good. He looked good," said Brown. "He woke up a little bit sore, as you would expect, so we're going to continue to decide what it means. Everyone wants to know when he will play. We're not prepared to give an answer to that yet, but I will say that he looked good in the five-on-five fullcourt scrimmages."
