Sixers hire doctor to run medical, sport science staff
C. Daniel Medina Leal comes from Spanish soccer team FC Barcelona.

The 76ers have a new doctor in the house.
The team has hired C. Daniel Medina Leal as vice president of athlete care. He comes from Spanish soccer team FC Barcelona, recently serving as the team's deputy director of sports science and medical department. Medina was FC Barcelona's team physician from 2008-15 before moving to the team's medical service department.
The Sixers created this vice president position for the renowned doctor. David Martin, the Sixers director of performance research and development, will report to Medina. And he won't be the only one.
Medina, who attended high school in Michigan, will be based at the team's practice facility in Camden and oversee the medical and sport science departments in addition to physiotherapy, athletic training, nutrition, and strength and conditioning.
Medina and his family are flying to Philadelphia from Spain to join the Sixers. He is coming to the organization at a good time. The Sixers' sports science and medical staffs were widely criticized this past season for players' failure to remain healthy.
Joel Embiid (torn meniscus, left knee), Ben Simmons (Jones fracture, right foot), Jerryd Bayless (torn ligaments, left wrist), Robert Covington (torn meniscus, right knee), Jahlil Okafor (soreness, right knee), and Sergio Rodriguez (strained left hamstring) were Sixers with season-ending injuries. Several others missed time because of injuries.
