Barcelona lived up to its reputation as the best club team in the world by beating Mexico's Club America, 2-0, Saturday at Cowboys Stadium in Dallas in the final game of the Spanish team's U.S. tour.

David Villa scored on a header in the first half, and Seydou Keita added a goal in the 90th minute.

The win was the first for Barcelona in three tries in the World Football Challenge, an exhibition tournament featuring top teams from the European leagues, Major League Soccer, and Mexico's first division.

Playing without several top players, including forward Lionel Messi, Barcelona lost, 2-1, last week to Manchester United, and, 4-1, on Wednesday to Chivas of Guadalajara.

In MLS action, the New England Revolution returned home after a three-game unbeaten road trip and lost, 3-2, to a Chivas USA team led by Alejandro Moreno's two goals.

Striker Dwayne De Rosario scored three goals, including a penalty kick in the 88th minute that gained host DC United a 3-3 tie with Toronto FC.

Playing at home, Real Salt Lake routed the New York Red Bulls, 3-0, to snap a two-game losing streak. Scoring were Nat Borchers, Luis Gil, and Alvaro Saborio.

RACING: Scott Dixon, who won the IndyCar race at Mid-Ohio in 2007 and 2009, took the pole for Sunday's event in Lexington, Ohio.

He posted a lap time of 1 minute, 08.0776 seconds to easily outclass the field of 27 cars. Ryan Briscoe qualified second, followed by defending Mid-Ohio champ Dario Franchitti, Will Power, Ryan Hunter-Reay, and local favorite Graham Rahal.

Justin Wilson broke his fifth vertebra when he spun off the course and hit a bump between Turns 1 and 2 in a single-car accident. Simon Pagenaud took over for Wilson and qualified the car at No. 22.

HIGH SCHOOLS: Academy Park's Mark Doe, 17, of Collingdale, a fleet wide receiver and defensive back, has committed to play football for the Delaware Blue Hens.

The 5-foot-9, 160-pound senior, who has been clocked at 4.56 seconds in the 40-yard dash, also received interest from Monmouth, Old Dominion, and Villanova.

NFL: Former Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Derrick Mason said he would sign with the New York Jets. After choosing the Jets over the Ravens and Titans, he wrote on his Twitter page: "Jet fuel is full time to fly!!!!" Mason, 37, caught 61 passes for 802 yards and seven touchdowns last season, but was cut by the Ravens July 28.

Tennessee Titans cornerback Cortland Finnegan missed a mandatory team meeting. Yahoo! Sports said Finnegan walked out of training camp Friday night, upset about his contract. He was to make $3.7 million this year, the last of a contract extension he signed in 2008, the year he was named all-pro.

Chicago Bears players, including linebacker Brian Urlacher, are calling for the team to ask the Chicago Park District to change to an artificial playing surface one day after practice was canceled at Soldier Field because of poor field conditions. "It's a joke," Urlacher said about the grass at Soldier Field.

The Chicago Park District accepted blame for the field condition and said the field would be ready for the first preseason game against Buffalo on Saturday.

Jaguars quarterback David Garrard's sore back kept him out of Jacksonville's scrimmage, allowing more repetitions for first-round draft pick Blaine Gabbert and third-stringer Luke McCown. Garrard's back tightened up during practice Thursday night. Tests revealed no damage, and coach Jack Del Rio called him "day to day."

Restricted free agent running back Michael Bush re-signed with the Oakland Raiders and reported to training camp. The Raiders had placed a first-round tender on Bush that was worth about $2.6 million. In three NFL seasons, Bush has 1,665 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns.
