Nelson Mellitz, with the South Jersey chapter of the veterans' group said, “this is the time for Americans to participate in events and ceremonies to memorialize and honor all those lost during the 9/11 attacks.” Mellitz, a retired USAF colonel who was recently elected National Commander of the organization, added that they wanted to put the flags up a few days ahead of the 21st anniversary as an “appropriate way to reflect, and draw attention to the continued sacrifices of those lost, their families and survivors. They will always be remembered as heroes.” Members of the JCC, the Cherry Hill Police Department, and the New Jersey State Police, also helped place the flags along the intersection of Springdale and Kresson Roads.
