Before a single lantern was illuminated, nearly 3 weeks of work took place to create the Philadelphia Chinese Lantern Festival in Franklin Square. The luminous spectacle at 6th and Race Streets contains 30 displays with over 1,200 silk-wrapped artistic components. In celebration of the year of the dragon, the popular 200-foot-long dragon will again grace the southern end of the park. The 2024 festival will usher in summer on June 20 and run until August 18. Until the opening, the display pieces have supplied an ever-changing backdrop for those who frequent the park.
