Closing Churches in Johnstown, Pa.

Catholics in a small section of Johnstown, Pa., bid farewell to four of their churches on July 19. Responding to a shrinking population and rising maintenance costs, the diocese is closing the churches and consolidating the congregations in the one remaining church under a new name, Resurrection Roman Catholic Church. The five massive, century-old church buildings -- each reflect the traditions of different ethnic groups -- sit cheek-to-jowl in the 26-block Cambria City section of Johnstown once populated by steel workers and coal miners.
