The ceremony, also taking place in cities around the world, was the 58th annual remembrance in Philadelphia and included candle lighting, music, readings and prayers. The first such ceremony was in 1964, after the memorial, "Monument to Six Million Jewish Martyrs" was presented to the city. The sculpture by Nathan Rapport, who was also a Holocaust survivor, was the first public monument in North America to memorialize the victims of the Holocaust.
