Mayor Jim Kenney joined the Philadelphia Union Foundation, Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer, Councilmember Mark Squilla, City officials and community members to break ground on the Rebuild project at South Philadelphia's Capitolo Playground at 9th & Federal Streets.

Capitolo is a predominantly Mexican-American neighborhood, where Councilmember Squilla said, “from Italian baseball players to Mexican soccer players, generations of multicultural Philadelphians have enjoyed the ball fields, playgrounds, and gardens.” Besides the new mini grass pitch, the project will upgrade other fields, add shade trees and picnic seating, improve fencing along the community garden, install new bleachers and team benches for spectators and players, and the create an ADA accessible entrance.
