Statues of Christopher Columbus in the Philadelphia region

There are hundreds of statues of Christopher Columbus all over America, and a half-dozen in the Philadelphia region - other than the one in Marconi Plaza. Communities have reacted in different ways to the protests against monuments many feel are symbols of historic oppression and systemic racism following the killing of George Floyd by Minneapolis police

Cooper River Park, in Pennsauken, June 18, 2020. The statue, by sculptor Frank Stella, was commissioned in 1976 for the American bicentennial. It originally stood outside the Walt Whitman Center in Camden. It was moved to Cooper River Park in 1984, and was moved again in July, 2020 to Cherry Hill.
