U.S. President

Vice President Kamala Harris or former President Donald Trump will need to win at least 270 votes in the Electoral College to become president-elect. Electoral votes are won by winning the popular vote in a given state. For example, winning the popular vote in Pennsylvania will give a candidate 19 electoral votes.

Battleground States

Polling and previous elections give us a strong sense of how a majority of states will vote. However, these are the seven battleground states that are harder to predict and will most likely decide which way the election goes.

U.S. Senate N.J.

Each state receives two U.S. senators who each serve six-term terms. However, elections for Senate seats happen on deferred years. Cory Booker’s seat will be up for reelection at the 2026 midterms. The seat available this year is the one vacated by Bob Menendez after he was convicted on 16 counts of corruption. U.S. Rep Andy Kim, a South Jersey Democrat, is running against Republican and Congress Hall hotelier Curtis Bashaw.

About the data

Results come directly from the Associated Press.

The AP’s expected vote counts are estimates that may change throughout the night. That means that they become more accurate as votes are counted, giving a clearer and clearer picture of how much of the vote is left to be counted.

It also means the numbers can shift slightly, including going up or down as the expected vote count is adjusted. That doesn’t mean something nefarious is going on — it just means the AP is updating its estimate to reflect new information.
