U.S. President

Both Republican and Democrat presidential primaries are more of a formality. President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump have been named presumptive nominees of their parties by the AP – setting up a 2020 rematch for November. Nikki Haley dropped out of the Republican race, but not in time to be removed from the Pennsylvania primary ballot.

U.S. Senate

Each state is represented by two senators who are elected in different years. John Fetterman was elected in 2022 and has until 2028 before facing reelection. This year, incumbent Democratic Sen. Bob Casey is seeking a fourth term. He is expected to face Republican Dave McCormick in November, as both U.S. Senate primaries are uncontested.

About the data

Results come directly from the Associated Press.

The AP’s expected vote counts are estimates that may change throughout the night. That means that they become more accurate as votes are counted, giving a clearer and clearer picture of how much of the vote is left to be counted.

It also means the numbers can shift slightly, including going up or down as the expected vote count is adjusted. That doesn’t mean something nefarious is going on — it just means the AP is updating its estimate to reflect new information.
