Cherelle Parker won the Democratic nomination for Philadelphia mayor, making her the odds-on favorite to become the 100th mayor and the first woman to ever helm the city.
David Oh won the GOP nomination uncontested.
Many Philly voters said public safety was a top issue in casting their vote for mayor.
Pennsylvania House Democrats will retain their one-seat majority in the state House after Democrat Heather Boyd was declared winner of the special election to replace former state Rep. Mike Zabel.
Other key races — with results yet to be called — included Philadelphia City Council, with a sprawling at-large field and a handful of competitive district races; the commissioners race in Montgomery County, which is facing a leadership shakeup; and a battle to run bankrupt Chester. As of Tuesday night, those races had not been called.
Turnout was thought to be low in the off-year primary. A few polling-place location changes caused confusion, but few widespread issues were reported.
