Mayor Parker can help keep the arts in the Avenue of the Arts — if she acts quickly

Lindsey Scannapieco, who turned the Bok Building into a hive for makers, is going toe-to-toe with a deep-pocketed developer to gain control of UArts' flagship building.

The former University of the Arts building called Hamilton hall (center) is the oldest and most historic building on South Broad Street. Originally built in 1824 for the Asylum for the Deaf and Dumb, it been a home for artists and makers since 1893, when it was acquired by the Pennsylvania Museum and School of Industrial Art, which later became the University of the Arts.
