House of the week: A three-bedroom rowhouse in Fairmount for $470,000
With the riverfront a few strides away, the rowhouse in Fairmount was a great location for two runners.
With friends headed for the Jersey Shore and retirement looming, Amy Layne and Allen Raevsky decided it was time to relocate as well.
Layne, a retired counselor now concentrating on end-of-life care, and Raevsky, a CPA, are making their Shore house their year-round residence.
They will take with them fond memories of the three-bedroom rowhouse on a tree-lined street in Fairmount that they bought in 2016.
Both are Philadelphia natives with ties to the Philadelphia neighborhood. Raevsky’s mother grew up there, and Layne’s daughter had lived there.
“We had amazing neighbors,” said Raevsky, and with the riverfront a few strides away, it was a great location for two runners.
But in his words, “it was just time” to return to the Shore, where the couple had lived some years before.
Entrance to the Fairmount home is through a living room with 10-foot ceilings, and there are original hardwood pine floors throughout. The living room also has an antique fireplace mantel.
The first floor includes a formal dining room and a full bathroom with a pedestal sink, ceramic tile floor, and glass shower stall.
The kitchen has 42-inch oak cabinets, stainless-steel appliances, granite countertops, and a farm-style stainless steel sink. A paved patio adjoins the kitchen.
The three bedrooms, which have generous closet space, are on the second floor. The primary bathroom has a dual custom vanity, a claw-foot tub, and a tiled shower stall.
The house has a high-efficiency heater and central air system and new vinyl windows, and the interior has been freshly painted.
The lower level runs the length of the home and contains the laundry area, mechanicals, and storage space.
The 1,440-square-foot house offers easy access to the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Barnes Museum, the University of Pennsylvania, shopping, restaurants, and public transit.
It is listed by Travis Rodgers of BHHS Fox & Roach at the Harper for $470,000.
