The house was built in 1923 by E. Lane Crawford, an architect who was very active in Norristown at that time, for himself and his family. But Susan Zeager said it perfectly suited what she and her then-husband were looking for in 1975.

“I could walk to most of the things I needed,” she said.

Zeager, a retired middle school French teacher who now lives in a senior residence in King of Prussia, also liked the hardwood floors and the general layout of the 1,610-square-foot home.

Over the years, the interior was enhanced by improvements such as wooden beams and new cabinets crafted by her husband, an industrial arts teacher.

Entry to the house is through the large, formal living room with a wood beam ceiling and working wood fireplace. The formal dining room also has beamed ceilings.

An enclosed side porch just off the living room has many windows and a wall air-conditioning unit.

A wood staircase and railings lead to the second floor, which is accessible from both the living room and the kitchen.

The kitchen has an addition with an eating area, a double-sized stainless steel sink with garbage disposal, a large bay window, and a separate laundry room.

An exterior door in the kitchen opens to a large rear yard with many mature trees and a detached one-car garage. The driveway fits up to a half-dozen cars.

The bedrooms are on the second floor. Two have ceiling fans and one has built-in bookcases. An additional room could serve as a home office.

The main bathroom has a large ceramic tile floor.

The house has an upgraded electrical system with 200AMP service, a new oil burner, and outdoor floodlights.

The attic is wood-floored for the full width of the house. The basement has outside access doors and the roof is slate.

The house is within walking distance of the Elmwood Park Zoo and a park with a remodeled playground and many picnic areas.

It is listed by Bette McTamney of RE/MAX 440 for $329,900.
