House of the week: a three-bedroom rowhouse in Point Breeze for $392,500
The house has easy access to the Sports Complex, Center City, University City, and Wharton Square Park.
Barbara Mahoney and her husband, Shawn, were newlyweds when they bought their three-bedroom rowhouse in Point Breeze in 2018, she said, and it was perfect for them at the time.
But two kids, two large dogs and a few years later, they are living in South Jersey. They rented out the 1,444-square-foot rowhouse for a year before listing it.
“We needed more outdoor room,” explained Barbara, a veterinarian, who grew up in South Jersey. Shawn, a physician assistant, grew up in Delaware County.
When the Mahoneys bought the Point Breeze house, they loved the walkability and the welcoming vibe of the neighborhood, she said.
“We were looking for a home that had been minimally changed” since its construction, she said. The rowhouse dated back to 1923.
They also liked the easy access to the Sports Complex, Center City, University City, and Wharton Square Park with its seasonal splash pad.
The house’s first floor has an open-concept living, dining, and kitchen space with a brick accent wall covering about half the area and reaching up to the primary bedroom. It also has a powder room.
The kitchen has Shaker-style cabinetry with white quartz countertops, a subway tile backsplash, and Samsung stainless steel appliances, including the gas range.
The bedrooms are on the second floor, including the primary suite, and one of the bedrooms would work well as a home office. There are hardwood floors throughout the upper levels.
The primary suite can accommodate a king-size bed, and the primary bathroom has a walk-in shower. There is a washer and dryer in a second-floor closet.
The basement is partially finished. New mechanicals were installed in 2018, and a new roof in 2019.
The house has four years left on the tax abatement.
It is listed by Ashley Lauren Farnschlader of Compass Realty for $392,500.
