When the Carlsons were house hunting several years ago, Scott loved the bones of the four-bedroom, 2½-bath house in Wayne. His wife, Christine, liked the fact that it was in the Radnor School District for her daughter.

“It’s a family-friendly neighborhood,” Christine added. “Trick-or-treating is insane around here.”

Both Scott and Christine also liked the stucco-over-masonry construction method from Italy that is unusual for this area. Walls are cinderblock reinforced with rebar. The couple said it helps keep the house cool in the summer.

The house is on Calvarese Lane in West Wayne — a street named for the family that built many homes there.

The Carlsons’ home was built in 1960. Christine said it required considerable interior work, including a new kitchen, when they bought it in 2019, but nothing structural.

Now with Scott retiring after serving as a military police officer, Army recruiter, and Pottstown police officer, the couple is moving to a five-acre spread in Perkiomenville. Christine teaches early childhood education at Harcum College in Bryn Mawr.

The 2,402-square-foot house they’re selling has a custom kitchen with an open concept design, designer backsplash, a WiFi-enabled range, and stainless steel appliances. The sellers will be installing central air-conditioning.

There are three bedrooms and a hall bathroom on the second level, and the primary bedroom is one level up. Scott calls it “the penthouse.”

The ground floor has access to the garage, a laundry room, and an updated powder room.

For garden enthusiasts, there is a potting room accessed from the rear door. There is also a large deck and a shed.

The house has easy access to shopping and dining at the Devon Square Town Center and the Radnor Trail.

It is listed by Betty Angelucci of BHHS Fox & Roach Wayne-Devon for $824,900.
