The most casual memories sometimes stick with people when they recall their early impressions of a neighborhood.

In Betsy O’Donnell’s case, it was sitting outdoors with a friend at a restaurant in the Art Museum area in 2000 and watching roller bladers whiz happily by.

“That’s when I thought it would be cool to live here,” she says, and the next year she bought a condo in the area.

O’Donnell had come from her native Cleveland to work as a teacher of the visually handicapped.

“It’s a beautiful area to be part of,” she says.

She redid the kitchen, floors, and bathroom, and made other improvements, then retired temporarily due to health issues. She has now improved enough to go back to work, but she wants to live in a high rise in the neighborhood “with the amenities.”

“I loved the high ceilings and the fireplace, and I like to garden,” she says. “But do I want to redo another kitchen? I don’t think so. I’m glad I did it, but it’s time.”

The condo is in a classic brownstone building dating to 1900.

The front staircase leads through double doors to an open plan with hardwood floors, original crown molding, and ceiling-height oversize windows that let in natural sunlight.

There is a wood-burning fireplace between the dining and living room areas, and the eat-in kitchen features a pantry and breakfast bar.

The bedroom area includes a walk-in closet, and the laundry room has a full-size washer and dryer.

The bathroom has a shower/tub combination, vanity and large linen closet. The unit has a basement storage unit and an enclosed outdoor patio.

In addition to the Art Museum, the condo has easy access to Green Street Dog Park, Kelly Drive and the Schuylkill River Trail.

The condo is listed by Maria Quattrone of RE/MAX @Home for $330,000.
