On the market: A three-bedroom rowhouse in South Philadelphia for $330,000
The house, which is over a century old, features many of the original details. But it has modern upgrades, too.
“I used to joke that I was going to die in that house,” Marge Huang said.
She was talking about the three-bedroom rowhouse in the East Passyunk Square neighborhood in South Philly that she and her husband, Chris Harlen, bought in 2018.
But the couple, both very much alive, have moved to Baltimore, so Huang, an archivist, can take up a new position.
She and Harlen, a clinical social worker, had, indeed, thought they had found the perfect home.
They had been renting six blocks away for two years after moving up from the Baltimore/D.C. area and “we loved the neighborhood — diverse, good food, walkable to Center City, the Italian Market,” she said.
And they weren’t interested in a home that would need to be gutted and rebuilt.
Harlen added that “two of the big selling points were the big back yard, unusual for South Philly, and a lot wider than in a lot of two-story rowhouses.”
The house was built more than a century ago, and the couple kept many of the original details.
The first floor has an open-concept layout, with the living and dining rooms leading into the kitchen, which has tall, white cabinets, quartz countertops with subway tiles, and stainless steel appliances.
There are hardwood floors throughout and easy access to the back patio.
The bedrooms are on the second floor, with an updated bathroom. Total square footage is 1,720.
A new roof membrane and furnace were installed in 2017. And there have been numerous upgrades in the short time the couple has lived there.
A sewer line leading to the public sewer line was replaced in 2018, and central air conditioning was installed the following year along with brick repointing on the front of the house.
The home is near Dickinson Square Park, buses on Seventh Street, and many shops and restaurants.
The house is listed by Pete Rossi of Redfin Corp. for $330,000.
