House of the week: A three-bedroom townhouse in South Philadelphia for $649,500
The home's owners enjoyed its rooftop views of downtown and being close to the amenities of the Passyunk area.
Maggie and Chris Prottas have loved their townhouse in the Newbold neighborhood since they bought it in 2017, but the stars have aligned to make them an offer they can’t refuse.
Maggie, an assistant university professor of health services, has a job offer in Arizona, where two sets of their parents reside. The Prottas family will be heading there with their two young daughters.
The couple moved here from Brooklyn because they liked the quality of life better in Philadelphia.
“We really liked the layout and the downtown views” from the roof deck, says Chris, who works for a public health nonprofit.
The couple also liked being close to Broad Street and the amenities of the Passyunk area, and Chris was intrigued by the house having the living room in the back opening up to the garden.
The entrance to the three-bedroom, 3½-bath home goes through the kitchen, which has a 12-foot island, two-toned soft close cabinets, LED recessed lighting, quartz countertops, and upgradedSamsung appliances.
The living room has a fireplace, built-in speakers for the TV, and a wet bar.
The second floor has two bedrooms, each with an attached bathroom, sliding pocket doors, large casement windows, and ample closet space.
The primary bedroom takes up the entire third floor and has custom soffits, built-in speakers, a handmade wooden accent wall, and a large walk-in closet.
The primary bathroom has a pebble-lined walk-in shower with three pressure jets and two shower heads. It’s wired for cable and TV and has a private toilet area, linen closet, and dual vanities.
The finished basement has nine-foot ceilings, LED lighting, and surround sound speakers for a home movie theater. There is a separate laundry room with Samsung washer-dryer.
The 1,307-square-foot house was built in 2017 and has 5½ years left on the tax abatement. The property’s total square footage is 3,100, and temperature is regulated by two HVAC units.
The house is listed by Reid Rosenthal of BHHS Fox & Roach at the Harper, Rittenhouse Square, for $649,500.
