Karl-Anthony Towns and Jalen Brunson rep the Eagles at the Wells Fargo Center
Towns, who did not play against the Sixers on Wednesday, came onto the court in an Eagles sweater. Then he changed out of it.
Eagles fans took over the Wells Fargo Center on Wednesday. The Eagles fans in question? Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns.
Towns did not play against the Sixers on Wednesday due to a thumb injury, and came onto the court in an Eagles sweater.
Towns grew up in Piscataway, N.J., as a Birds fan, and predicted the Eagles would go 17-0 in the preseason on the Rich Eisen Show. He wasn’t too far off!
But, coming out for the second half, Towns had taken the Eagles sweater off and replaced it with a Knicks sweater.
Brunson, also known for his die-hard Eagles fandom, scored 38 points in the Knicks’ overtime win over the Sixers. During the game, he told ESPN he “absolutely” cosigned Towns wearing an Eagles sweater, and postgame was asked why Towns changed out of his Birds sweater.
“I have no idea,” Brunson said. “If it was me, I would have kept it on.”
Knicks fans were not as pleased with Towns’ sweater, but Towns posted on X after the game that he took the sweater off because he had sweated through it.
The Birds play again at 3 p.m. Sunday in the divisional playoff round against the Rams at Lincoln Financial Field, and fortunately for Brunson and Towns, the Knicks have the day off. Unfortunately for Commanders fan Josh Hart, the Knicks do play during Washington’s playoff game against the Lions game on Saturday.
