NEW YORK — Ben Simmons will play Sunday night against the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden.

This comes one night after the All-Star point guard missed Saturday night’s 129-105 home victory over the Sacramento Kings with left knee soreness.

Simmons’ return is a welcome addition for a Sixers squad during their first contest of a six-game road trip. The fourth-year veteran is averaging 15.9 points, 8.0 rebounds, 7.8 assists and 1.5 steals. Guarding positions one through five, Simmons is a leading candidate for defensive player of the year.

He was first-team All-Defensive selection and third-team All-NBA performer last season.

Simmons had 16 points, 13 rebounds, and seven assists when the Sixers defeated the Knicks, 99-96, on Tuesday.

The Sixers were still without starters Joel Embiid (left knee bone bruise) and Seth Curry (sprained left ankle) on Sunday night.
