Sixers rookie Jared McCain underwent surgery to repair torn meniscus in his left knee
McCain was a bright spot to start the Sixers' season, averaging 15.3 points and shooting 38.3% from three-point range.
76ers guard Jared McCain underwent surgery to repair the lateral meniscus tear in his left knee on Tuesday evening, the team announced. The rookie will remain out indefinitely.
McCain suffered the injury Friday in a loss to the Indiana Pacers. He reported left knee soreness after the game, and an MRI on Saturday revealed the meniscus tear. McCain also took a hard fall in the game and hit his head on the floor. He needed help from teammate Paul George as he walked to the free-throw line.

Before the injury, McCain was enjoying a breakout first season and was considered the front-runner for Rookie of the Year. He was averaging 15.3 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 2.6 assists and shooting 46% from the field, including 38.3% on three-pointers.
McCain was named rookie of the month for October and November after leading all first-year players in scoring at 16 points per game. He joined Hall of Famer Allen Iverson as the only Sixers rookies to average 15 points and two made three-pointers.
McCain was the lone positive story at the start of the Sixers season. He scored 20 points or more in seven straight games during one stretch as George, Joel Embiid, and Tyrese Maxey battled injuries. McCain also seamlessly moved into a more complementary role when the Sixers’ Big Three returned from injury.
