Don’t expect star center Joel Embiid in the Sixers’ New Year’s Day tilt against Sacramento
Embiid has been managing multiple health ailments, including a sprained left foot, a sinus fracture, and an ongoing knee issue.
Joel Embiid will miss Wednesday’s 76ers game at the Sacramento Kings to rest, according to the NBA’s injury report released Tuesday afternoon.
The game in Sacramento, Calif., is the front end of a back-to-back, before a nationally televised matchup at the Golden State Warriors on Thursday (10 p.m., TNT, NBCSP). Embiid has been managing multiple health ailments, including a sprained left foot, a sinus fracture, and an ongoing knee issue. He had been listed as questionable before starting each of the last two games and scored a season-high 37 points Monday in a 125-103 win at the Portland Trail Blazers.
Backup center Andre Drummond (left toe sprain) remains questionable to play against the Kings, which could open up minutes for rookie Adem Bona. Veteran guards Kyle Lowry (right hip soreness) and Eric Gordon (oral surgery) also are listed as questionable. All three players missed the win in Portland.
Rotation wing KJ Martin also will miss his fourth consecutive game with a left foot stress reaction. The Sixers are riding a season-best four-game winning streak and have won 10 of their last 13 games. Following the back-to-back, the Sixers will fly cross-country to conclude a six-game road trip on Saturday at the Brooklyn Nets (6 p.m., NBCSP).
