AEW announces its first pay-per-view event in Philly, AEW Dynasty. Tony Khan hopes it can ‘live up to the original.’
The event will be held at the Liacouras Center on April 6.
All Elite Wrestling is returning to Philadelphia in April. AEW Dynasty will be on April 6 at Temple’s Liacouras Center in Philadelphia, marking AEW’s first pay-per-view event to be held in Pennsylvania.
“Philadelphia has been a great home for AEW and really all of pro wrestling for many years,” Tony Khan, the CEO, general manager, and head of creative for AEW, told The Inquirer. “The energy is tremendous, and we’ve always wanted to have a pay-per-view event there. AEW Dynasty is going to be a great pay-per-view in a great city at an arena where we have a great history of putting on awesome events. It’s the perfect place to make a pay-per-view debut.”
Since its inception in 2019, AEW has visited Philadelphia six times, previously filming its weekly programs Dynamite, Rampage, and Collision in the city. The last time AEW was at the Liacouras Center was for its Nov. 2 Collision show last year.
Before that, the company held multiple milestone events at the Liacouras Center — including its two-year anniversary show and one of its first Dynamite shows, which featured Kenny Omega teaming up with Hangman Adam Page for the first time.
But Khan says fans can expect an even more lively atmosphere this time around.
“I think this will be the biggest event by far,” Khan said. “AEW Dynasty will be the biggest event AEW has ever held in Philadelphia. I’m very excited for AEW to continue to bring big events to the city and I think it’ll be a great pay-per-view and a great night of wrestling.”
AEW Dynasty is one of the company’s newer pay-per-view events. Its inaugural show took place last April at Chaifetz Arena in St. Louis and was headlined by matches between Kazuchika Okada and Pac, Will Ospreay and Bryan Danielson, FTR and The Young Bucks, and Swerve Strickland and Samoa Joe.

“The goal is to live up to the original,” Khan said. “Last year’s Dynasty was a huge hit and a great event. It was tremendous and we built huge expectations for the card and I think we can live up to it and have Dynasty become a great tradition as an awesome pay-per-view for AEW.”
