Manchester United finds itself in a must-win spot in the Champions League on Tuesday afternoon (3 p.m. ET). The Red Devils, who are currently in last place in Group A with zero points and a -2 goal difference, need to beat FC Copenhagen to have a realistic chance of advancing to the knockout stages of the competition.

United could in theory still advance with any result, but it would essentially require them to run the table in the last three matches of the group stage and that is very unlikely considering one of those matches would be against Bayern Munich.

The bookmakers seem confident that United will take care of business as the Red Devils are currently sitting at -300 on the three-way moneyline.

FC Copenhagen vs. Manchester United prediction: Analysis

Manchester United’s biggest issue this season has been a leaky defense, but the Red Devils really haven’t been all that impressive going forward, either. Manchester United ranks third in the Premier League in shots per 90 minutes, but those attempts have generally been of low quality as the Red Devils rank 14th in big scoring chances created and 10th in non-penalty expected goals for per 90 minutes.

United have plenty of game-breakers who don’t need bushels of high-quality scoring chances to make a difference, but it’s hard to see them running up the score on anyone right now.

I also suspect that United will deploy a pretty conservative gameplan in this contest. The Red Devils simply make too many mistakes defensively and that is the best path to success for Copenhagen. The Lions don’t have the talent to play Manchester United off the pitch, so they’ll sit back and hope that an error from the hosts can open a door into this contest for them. I’d imagine that United will be keenly aware of this and attempt to keep this match on script as much as possible.

With United struggling to create scoring chances consistently and the situation -- United simply cannot lose this match -- calling for a more conservative approach from Erik ten Hag, I think there is value taking Under 2.5 goals at a solid price on Tuesday.
