Bet on Flyers as road underdogs against Golden Knights during Tuesday night’s Frozen Frenzy

Will we see an upset in Sin City on Tuesday night?

The Vegas Golden Knights set some history over the weekend by becoming the first defending Stanley Cup champion to start the next season with six consecutive wins. They’ll look to add to their record-breaking start with a matchup with the surprising Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday night’s Frozen Frenzy.

The oddsmakers have made the Knights heavy favorites at -238, but there are some signals pointing to this being a potential banana skin for the cup-holders.

Flyers vs. Golden Knights prediction: Analysis

While the Knights deserve a ton of credit for rattling off six straight wins to kickoff their title defense, there does seem to be a tiny bit of smoke and mirrors here. Vegas has not played the toughest schedule (four of its games came against the struggling Kraken, Sharks, Ducks and Blackhawks) and has benefited from terrific goaltending from Adin Hill and Logan Thompson.

The Knights are allowing just 1.83 goals against per game despite allowing 2.8 expected goals per 60 minutes on the season. A ton of credit goes to Hill and Thompson, who have combined for a .935 save percentage through six games.

At some point you’d imagine that Vegas’ goaltenders will come back down to earth a bit and the Flyers may be the team to rattle their cages. Philadelphia doesn’t look like an offensive power on paper -- and the Flyers likely won’t be over the course of an 82-game season -- but right now things are going right for John Tortorella’s side. The Flyers rank 14th in goals per game, but their seventh in expected goals per contest (all situations) and 10th in xG/60 at 5-on-5.

Philadelphia’s defensive numbers are also quite strong and they’re playing a feisty, hard-working game that can unsettle any team.

This is the last of 16 games on Tuesday night and I can’t think of a better way to cap off this hockey marathon than by betting the longshot Flyers against the undefeated Stanley Cup champions.
