2019 Broad Street Run: Course, start time, records, prize money, post-race party
The largest 10-miler in the nation is set for Sunday at 8 a.m.
The 40th edition of the Broad Street Run, billed by organizers at the largest 10-miler in the nation, is set to start on Sunday at 8 a.m., and AccuWeather is predicting rain and 65 degrees. So, whether you’re running and watching, dress in layers and water-proof garments.
According to the race’s organizers, Philadelphia’s Department of Parks and Recreation, the first Broad Street Run took place in 1980 with 1,500 runners starting at Broad Street and Somerville Avenue and ending in the old JFK Stadium.
Since then, the race has raised more than $5 million for the American Cancer Society and other local community and charity programs.
Last year, Daniel Kemoi of Elkton, Md., crossed the finish line first to win on a breezy morning.
This year, the 40,000 runners will pass through 40 cheer zones on the 10-mile course, and the race will be broadcast live from its start at 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. by NBC 10 and Telemundo TV. The winner usually runs the race in about 45 minutes.
