The Eagles are keeping Jeff Stoutland in the building.

The team and its longtime offensive line coach, widely regarded as one of the best assistant coaches in the NFL, agreed to a contract extension Friday, according to a league source confirming an ESPN report.

Stoutland, who also holds the title of run-game coordinator, reportedly received interest in offensive coordinator jobs across the league which facilitated him receiving a new deal to stay with the Eagles.

Stoutland has overseen the Eagles’ offensive line since 2012 and has been instrumental in the team’s success developing and maintaining a dominant front during that time. Jason Kelce has been an All-Pro selection five times under Stoutland. Lane Johnson has been honored twice. Each of the Eagles’ five starting linemen this season were either named to the Pro Bowl or as alternates for the game, although they will miss the weekend’s festivities as they prepare for Super Bowl LVII.

Jordan Mailata may be Stoutland’s most improbable development story. Mailata was selected in the seventh round of the 2018 NFL draft as an Australian rugby player who hadn’t played in a football game. The 6-foot-8, 365-pound lineman eventually earned a starting role on the Eagles offensive line, which he credits largely to Stoutland’s teachings.

Mailata notably said he went to “Jeff Stoutland University” on a Sunday Night Football broadcast earlier this season. He has played his best in the playoffs, too. The 25-year-old is Pro Football Focus’ highest-rated offensive lineman in the postseason so far, allowing just one pressure in his two games.
