Drexel’s Keishana Washington, Maura Hendrixson up for national awards along with Villanova’s Maddy Siegrist

Washington is on three national watch lists, Hendrixson is a top-10 candidate for the Nancy Lieberman Award, and Siegrist is on the John Wooden Award late-season watch list.

Drexel basketball players Keishana Washington and Maura Hendrixson are candidates for national awards.

Washington, a 5-foot-7 guard, has been named as one of the top 10 candidates for the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award as the nation’s top shooting guard. She ranks third in the nation in scoring at 26.2 points per game and recently became the second player in Drexel history to surpass the 2,000-point mark.

This season, Washington is shooting a career-best 44% from the floor.

It is the third national player of the year watch list this season for Washington, a graduate student. She was named to the USBWA National Player of the Year (also named for Meyers Drysdale) and the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year midseason lists.

Hendrixson is a top-10 candidate for the Nancy Lieberman Award as the nation’s top point guard.

The 5-9 fifth-year senior is averaging 7.7 assists, which leads the Colonial Athletic Association and is third in the nation. Her 146 assists this season are sixth in Division I. Hendrixson, from Garnet Valley, has six games this season with 10 or more assists, tying her for second nationally.

Both awards are presented by the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame and Women’s Basketball Coaches Association

Siegrist up for national honor

Villanova senior forward Maddy Siegrist is one of 20 players named to the John Wooden Award late-season top 20 watch list. Chosen by a poll of national college basketball experts, the list includes players who are front-runners for the sport’s most prestigious honor.

Siegrist leads the country in scoring with a 28.4 points per game to go with 9.5 rebounds. She is shooting 52% from the field, including 39% from three-point range. The Wildcats (18-4, 9-2 Big East) are ranked 19th in the AP top 25.
