SEPTA to close Penn Medicine station, pause service on Wawa-Media line for construction
The transit agency will be limiting service on the Wawa-Media, Wilmington-Newark, and Airport Lines through Aug. 26 to make way a range of repairs to tunnels, tracks, and bridges.
If you’re a Regional Rail commuter from Delaware County, Southwest Philadelphia, or Wilmington, this might be a good time to start working from home.
SEPTA will adjust service on the Media-Wawa, Wilmington-Newark, and Airport Lines beginning today through Aug. 26 to make way for the final stage of the Southwest Connection Improvement Program, an infrastructure project that has been tackling maintenance issues since 2018.
There will be no service on the Media-Wawa Line through Friday, and Penn Medicine Station will be closed for the duration of the project.
The focus of this stage of the Southwest Connection Improvement Program is rebuilding a portion of the Media-Wawa line that runs under Penn Medicine Station and also serves trains from Wilmington and the airport, according to a statement from SEPTA. Crews will be inspecting bridges and repairing tunnels, among other repairs.
Here’s what you need to know about the impacted stations and lines.
Penn Medicine Station
This station will be closed through Saturday, Aug. 26.
Shuttles will be running between 33rd and Spruce Streets and 30th Street Station for the duration of the project.
Media-Wawa Line
There will be no service from July 24 through Friday. Otherwise, adjusted schedules will be in effect.
Weekdays: Shuttles will run between 49th Street Station, 33rd and Spruce Streets, and 30th Street Station.
Weekends: Shuttles will run between Swarthmore Station, 33rd and Spruce Streets, and 30th Street Station.
Wilmington-Newark Line
There will be no service to Suburban, Jefferson, or Temple University Stations through Saturday, Aug. 26.
All trains will arrive at 30th Street Station via the Amtrak terminal.
Adjusted schedules will also be in effect.
Airport Line
There will be no service to Suburban, Jefferson, or Temple University Stations through Saturday, Aug. 26.
Adjusted schedules will also be in effect.
Weekdays: Hourly train service from all airport terminals, Eastwick, and 30th Street Station.
Weekends: Shuttles will be provided between all airport terminals, Eastwick, and 30th Street Station.
