See pictures of the Philly region’s first snowfall of 2025

While modest, it was enough to warrant breaking out snow plows and shovels. Take a look.

As white, pillowy snow drifted through Philly skies, the city saw its first proper snow day of the season. It wasn’t much, but it warranted school and city office closures — prompting celebration from area kids and dogs.

The city observed its first snowstorm of the year on Monday, receiving a little under 2 inches of snowfall as the winter storm passed through the region — a modest amount, but enough to warrant breaking out snow plows and shovels; and about nine times more than the previous high this winter: 0.2 inches on Christmas Eve.

Areas in South Jersey and Delaware received the most snow, while in Philadelphia, regional transportation and trash pickup was largely business as usual.

Snowfall is expected to putter out by the end of the day, leaving the region with gusty winds blowing around whatever powder remains on Tuesday.

But for the day, locals could be seen throughout town taking in the new scenery.
