🦅 The ultimate Eagles fan guide to Super Bowl Weekend | Things to Do
Plus Black History Month events, thrift shopping, and Girl Scout cookies.

The Eagles have landed in New Orleans ahead of Super Bowl LIX’s kickoff this Sunday. We’re just days away from the major rematch with Kansas City, and I know we’re all itching to see the Eagles clap back and bring home the trophy. (No, we’re not rooting for Taylor’s boyfriend.) Go Birds! If you’re still figuring out your weekend plans, we have you covered — whether that’s what food to order or where to watch.
Do you have any Super Bowl traditions that you’ll be breaking out for the Eagles? Let me know!

Fly Eagles Fly
It’s game time in Philadelphia this weekend so expect to see green everywhere as Eagles fans gear up for the big day. Here’s your guide to having the best Super Bowl weekend:
🏈 Head to the bar: Watch parties are kicking off across the city (with special game-day deals and themed drinks, of course) so we rounded up all the best spots.
🏈 Nail the menu: Find party trays, Eagles-themed pizzas, and big hoagies with our guide to ordering food for your Super Bowl party.
🏈 Secure the entertainment: If you’re only tuning in for Kendrick Lamar, no judgment. Here’s how to watch the Compton icon perform his smash hit “Not Like Us” in the halftime show.
🏈 Wear something green: If it’s your first Birds T-shirt or your 50th, find Eagles hoodies, hats, and more at one of these local merch shops.
The best things to do this week
🖼️ Spotlighting Black Philadelphians: It’s Black History Month and organizations across the city are hosting various events, from cooking classes to historical walking tours.
👗 Another man’s treasure: Along the Main Line you can find some incredible secondhand clothing shops with vintage gems. We asked an estate sale expert to tell us the best thrift stores.
🎭 Don’t miss the short run: The heartwarming Tony-nominated musical Come From Away, about passengers stranded on 9/11 finding strength in a time of crisis, is in Philadelphia for a brief stint through Sunday at the Academy of Music.
🍽️ Last chance: More than a dozen restaurants are offering discounted dishes for Northern Liberties Restaurant Week. It ends on Feb. 8 so snag those reservations quickly.
🖼️ Stop and stare: The precious art collection of actor CCH Pounder is on view at the African American Art Museum of Philadelphia. Like the PMA’s “The Time Is Always Now” show, which closes this weekend, the exhibit spotlights portraiture in delightful and unexpected ways.
📅 My calendar picks this week: The Hoop Jawn, Black History Month First Friday, Heartbreak Hotel Cake Decorating
The thing of the week
If you’re looking to learn more about Philly’s Black history in civics and the arts this month, my coworker Hira Qureshi has one recommendation: A trolley tour by Mural Arts.
Take the Black History Month Civic Heroes Trolley Tour, featuring murals of iconic Black figures, with Murals Arts Philadelphia on Feb. 8. A guide will walk you through Philly neighborhoods with the murals and share stories behind each piece of art. Tours, limited to groups of 38, depart from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA) and Lenfest Plaza Paint Torch Sculpture and return to the same location. Tickets must be purchased in advance.
Winter fun this week and beyond
👛 Cheeky fashion: Head to the Fabric Museum and Workshop to see a show looking back at 50 years of its groundbreaking history. Specifically look out for the clever and quirky creations of South Jersey-raised artist Jenny Walton, who transforms vintage clothing and accessories into feminist artworks.
📺 I’m seated: Upper Darby-raised comedy legend Tina Fey is developing a new comedy show for Netflix remaking the 1981 rom-com The Four Seasons — and it stars Fey, Colman Domingo, and Steve Carell. Catch up on what to know about this very Philly team-up.
🍪 Treat yourself: Girl Scout Cookie season has arrived to brighten up these dark wintry days with thin mints, tagalongs, and more sweet treats. Find all your faves in Philly.
🎸 Mark your calendar: Bob Dylan (the real one, not Timothée Chalamet) and Willie Nelson are returning to Camden this summer for their Outlaw Music Festival Tour.
💖 Curious collab: Horror filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan’s latest project is a team-up with romance novelist Nicholas Sparks for a supernatural romance thriller. Here’s everything we know so far.
Our critics’ picks
Pop music critic Dan DeLuca and classical music critic Peter Dobrin breakdown the best upcoming shows.
🎹 Thursday: Turkish pianist Fazil Say has occasionally drawn attention for tweeting on nonmusical topics, most recently criticizing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Gaza policies. He is also a prolific composer, and on this stop of his North American tour, he plays a program of his own works at the Annenberg Center’s Zellerbach Theatre.
🎤 Friday: Shemekia Copeland lost out to Taj Mahal and Ruthie Foster at the Grammys in two blues categories on Sunday. There’s no shame in that. The daughter of guitarist Johnny Copeland has been one of the leading vocalists in the genre for over a quarter century now, and the formidable Blame It On Eve is one of her best. She’s at the Zellerbach Theatre.
🎸 Friday: Philly punk band Wax Jaw is shooting a video at Ortlieb’s in Northern Liberties on Friday. You could be famous: “Star in A Wax Jaw Video. Dance Your Ass Off,” is how the flier advertising the show puts it. DJ Ptferris96 is the after party entertainment.
🎤 Monday: The lone arena headliner playing the Wells Fargo Center this winter is Kelsea Ballerini, the country star who has guested on The Voice and will join the singing competition show as a full-time coach in March, joining Michael Bublé, Adam Levine, and John Legend. She’s touring behind her fifth album, Patterns, which crosses over to folk-pop with a duet with Noah Kahan on “Cowboys Cry Too.”
🎹 Wednesday: Orrin Evans, the Philly pianist who was nominated for a large jazz ensemble Grammy for Walk A Mile In My Shoe with the Captain Black Big Band, is back in town hosting his jazz jam upstairs at the World Cafe Live.
This week I’ve been catching up on Mo, the incisively smart and touching Netflix series from Mohammed Amer and Ramy writer/star Ramy Youssef. What show is making you laugh these days? Let me know!
