First-team All-Pa. offense: The state's best NFL players of the modern era

Pennsylvania is the birthplace of more than 1,500 NFL players, according to Pro-Football-Reference, some of whom have made their way into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. After naming some of the top all-time defensive players since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger, here are the state’s best offensive players at each position.

Joe Montana, quarterback

Montana, a native of New Eagle near Pittsburgh, is one of the best QBs ever. The Hall of Famer is a four-time Super Bowl champ, three-time Super Bowl MVP, and eight-time Pro Bowler. Honorable mention: Dan Marino, Joe Namath, Johnny Unitas

Tony Dorsett, running back

The 1976 Heisman Trophy winner and Rochester (Beaver County) native had a Hall of Fame career. A four-time Pro Bowler, Dorsett spent 11 seasons with the Cowboys and won a Super Bowl before spending his final season in Denver.

Curtis Martin, running back

Martin, a Pittsburgh native and Hall of Famer, played 11 seasons and was a five-time Pro Bowl selection and the 1995 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. Honorable mention: LeSean McCoy, John Cappelletti, Saquon Barkley

Marvin Harrison, wide receiver

The Philly native was one of the most dependable receivers in the NFL and caught passes from Peyton Manning for most of his 13-year career. Harrison, an eight-time Pro Bowler, won a Super Bowl with the Colts and is in the Hall of Fame.

Andre Reed, wide receiver

Reed, an Allentown native, played primarily with the Buffalo Bills during his 16-year career. The Kutztown alum earned seven trips to the Pro Bowl during his Hall of Fame career. Honorable mention: Brandon Marshall, Fred Biletnikoff

Mike Ditka, tight end

Before becoming the legendary coach of the 1985 Bears, Ditka was a five-time Pro Bowl tight end and a two-time champion — as well as the 1961 Rookie of the Year. The Carnegie native and Hall of Famer even briefly played for the Eagles.

Jeff Christy, center

The native of Freeport near Pittsburgh played for the Vikings and Buccaneers during his 10-year career. Christy made three Pro Bowls and became a Super Bowl champ before retiring in 2003.

Jahri Evans, guard

Evans, a Philadelphia native, played college football at Bloomsburg before being drafted by New Orleans in 2006. Despite coming from a small school, Evans made six Pro Bowls and won a Super Bowl with the Saints during his 12-year career.

Mike Munchak, guard

A Scranton native, Munchak played college football at Penn State before being selected by the Houston Oilers in the 1982 draft. He was elected to nine Pro Bowls, was a member of the NFL’s 1980s All-Decade team, and is in the Hall of Fame.

Jimbo Covert, offensive tackle

Covert, a Hall of Famer from Conway, Beaver County, spent eight seasons with the Bears where he became a two-time Pro Bowler, two-time All-Pro pick, and a Super Bowl champion. Honorable mention: Lincoln Kennedy

Erik Williams, offensive tackle

The Philadelphia native spent his 11-year career with the Cowboys and Baltimore Ravens. Williams was a four-time Pro Bowl pick, a two-time All-Pro, and a three-time Super Bowl champion.
