Penn to host the Cathedral of College Basketball Classic on Thanksgiving weekend at the Palestra

The Palestra will play host to a hoops tournament over the holiday weekend for a second straight year.

The Penn men’s basketball program will host a multi-team event at The Palestra over the Thanksgiving weekend for a second straight year, with the Cathedral of College Basketball Classic including Belmont, Lafayette, and Monmouth.

The four teams will play a round-robin schedule starting on Friday, Nov. 24 with Belmont vs. Monmouth at 2p.m. while the later game is Penn vs. Lafayette at 4:30 p.m. Play continues on Saturday, Nov. 25 with Lafayette vs. Monmouth at 2 p.m. and Penn vs. Belmont at 4:30 p.m. The event concludes on Sunday, Nov. 26 with Belmont vs. Lafayette, at noon and Penn vs. Monmouth at 2:30 p.m.

The Palestra opened on the Penn campus 96 years ago and the arena has long been called the Cathedral of College Basketball.

Last year in what was called the Cathedral Classic, Penn won three games in as many days to capture a de facto tournament championship.
