Penn men’s lacrosse coach Mike Murphy is Ivy League coach of the year

The Quakers went 6-0 in the Ivy League, the team’s first undefeated league season since 1984.

After going undefeated in the Ivy League this season, the Penn men’s lacrosse team heads into this weekend’s league tournament having secured a number of awards.

Head coach Mike Murphy was named Ivy League coach of the year Monday after leading the team to a 6-0 league record, the team’s first undefeated league season since 1984. The Quakers also claimed their first Ivy League title since 1988.

The Quakers also received nine all-Ivy League selections, the most in program history. Their four first-team picks tied a 1984 record.

Penn’s Ivy League first-team selections: Captain and midfielder: Tyler Dunn, Midfielder: Sam Handley, Defenseman: Mark Evanchick and Goalie: Reed Junkin.

The second-team selections: Attacks: Adam Goldner and Simon Mathais, and Face-off: Kyle Gallagher.

Named honarable mention were Defensemen: BJ Farrare and Kyle Thornton

Handley was also selected as the Ivy League rookie of the year.

Penn opens the Ivy League tournament as the No.1 seed against No.4 Brown on Friday at Columbia.
