Li Beirut

This bustling Lebanese BYOB, run by chef Patricia Massoud, is a standout in the Philly region. Massoud prepares dishes inspired by her childhood, while her husband and co-owner, Tony, welcomes guests with bowls of mezze— hummus, fried kibbe, and more. The menu features charcoal-grilled lamb chops, kafta kebabs, and tajin (baked fish with tahini sauce and caramelized onions). For an all-inclusive experience, try the Taste of Lebanon, which includes mezze, an entree, and dessert like baklava or Lebanese milk pudding.

Sagami

In Collingswood, James Beard-nominated chef Shigeru Fukuyoshi set the standard for sushi in the region. The area’s most acclaimed Japanese restaurant was founded in 1974 by Fukuyoshi and his late wife, Chizuko Fukuyoshi — the “heart and soul” of the restaurant. After a brief hiatus due to Chizuko’s death in the summer of 2024, the local favorite returned with its classic Japanese cooking. Along with sushi, the restaurant offers fried eggplant with miso, cold soba noodles, broiled eel on a pillow of rice in a lacquered wood box, and tempura. The restaurant recently changed hands to Alan Su, the owner of Nom Nom Ramen, Umami Steak & Sushi Bar, and Shiso and a Sagami customer for three decades — but much of the menu remains the same, The Inquirer reported.

June BYOB

Tableside pressed duck and crêpes suzette flambé are center stage at June BYOB. Owner/chef Richard “Todd” Cusack serves classic French cuisine with tableside service and dishes including rabbit rillettes and foie gras, beef Wellington, and Bordelaise-splashed escargots. But that’s not all — the menu offers crudos, vegan dishes, Jersey-fresh corn risotto, and other modern plates. Cusack’s BYOB is “one of the area’s loveliest restaurants for a celebratory meal rooted in classic Gallic style,” according to Inquirer food critic Craig LaBan.
