Philly’s only surviving Revolutionary-era dive bar will soon open its doors again

Colonial Philadelphia burst with bars. There were 101 taverns in the budding port town, or about 1 bar for every 160 citizens, historians say. But only A Man Full of Trouble survives.

A Man Full of Trouble Tavern in Society Hill was recently purchased by a real estate investor, who plans to reopen it as a bar museum. The tavern is Philadelphia’s only surviving pre-Revolutionary War drinking spot.
