Arterial Agents: Coffee, magazines, and groceries on Jewelers Row

You get an espresso bar (with beans from Ceremony from Annapolis, Md.), pastries from Kermit's and Au Fournil, a tight selection of high-minded, indie magazines, and nonperishable groceries from Philly's Green Aisle Grocery.

A quirky combo of coffee and retail has set up at the corner of Seventh and Sansom Streets on Jewelers Row.

In less than 300 feet, Arterial Agents Coffee & Shop packs in an espresso bar (with beans from Ceremony from Annapolis, Md.), pastries from Kermit's and Au Fournil, a tight selection of high-minded, indie magazines (Lucky Peach, Monocle, Cherry Bombe, Fantastic Man, The Gentlewoman), and nonperishable groceries from Philly's Green Aisle Grocery.

You really want quirky? The shop soon also will carry Oma's Pride natural raw pet foods and treats. One of AA's owners, Nick DeJulius, is a scion of the family-run company out of Avon, Conn. (He and his silent partner are Temple U alums from New England who chose to stick around in Philly.)

DeJulius' background also includes event sales and food-and-beverage management in the New York boutique hotel scene.

As for the name: DeJulius says he's a fan of alliteration. He joined "arterial" (as in, connector/delivery route) with "agents" (representative or broker) because the shop does just that.

The Heads of State in Old City, the design/branding firm, came up with the "coffee & shop" line to better explain the concept.

Hours are 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekends.
